| but look at it this way. If the manifold was nothing more than a big breadbox with inlets and outlets it would probably flow great. But it should be obvious that such a large volume would create laggyness. If you can agreed with that (the boundary condition) then its natural to conclude that there is a point at which it is too big when discussing designs like the two in question. Given that only one cylinder discharges at a time, logically the cross section of the collector doesnt need to be bigger than that of the runner. Collectors need only to merge runners into a common path and avoid turbulance or sudden changes in area or direction while doing so.
